Using the GOP Editor

The GOP Editor can be accessed externally by launching the GopEditor.exe application from Windows, or by selecting File => Edit KeyFile(s) in the TyTool Main Shell.  If selected from the TyTool Main Shell, the user  will see the TyTool File Selector come up showing any .KEY files which have been created.  The user then navigates in the standard fashion and selects the files to be edited.

Once that is done TyTool will load the first selected .KEY file.  This may take a few moments.  The user is then presented with the GOP Editor.

There are a large number of options in the File, Edit, and Options pull down menus, but for the most part they are quite self-explanatory.  The user is encouraged to explore the various functions available in the Edit and Options pull-downs, but the major functions are available directly on the right side of the editor.

GOP Editor Main Controls

Cut List / Chapter List - At the very top of the editor window are a pair of selection buttons which determine whether the user is adding cuts or chapter markers.  Frame Accurate Editing (FAE) is available when making cuts, but chapter markers can only be inserted at GOP boundaries.  A more detailed discussion of FAE and GOP editing can be found in Advanced Topics.

Slider - In the very center of the editor window is a slider which controls the position of the editor focus in the program. Moving the slider with the mouse or using one of the jump controls in the Edit Menu moves the editor focus up and down the file allowing the user to select edit points.

Jump Back - The < control right below the slider causes the editor focus to jump one GOP earlier in the file when left clicked once.  Clicking and holding down the left mouse button on this control causes the editor to stream backward through the file at the speed set in the options menu until the mouse button is released.  The frame displayed will be the very first frame in the GOP.

Jump Forward - The > control right below the slider causes the editor focus to jump one GOP earlier in the file when left clicked once.  Clicking and holding down the left mouse button on this control causes the editor to stream forward through the file at the speed set in the options menu until the mouse button is released.  The frame displayed will be the very first frame in the GOP.

GOP Cut Start - The [ control (Cut List only) right below the slider selects the current GOP to be used as the first set of frames to be removed in a cut segment.  The images in this GOP will NOT be included in the finished output.  This option can also be selected by pressing <Home>.

GOP Cut Stop - The ] control (Cut List only) right below the slider selects the current GOP to be used as the last set of frames to be removed in a cut segment.  The images in this GOP will NOT be included in the finished output.  Remember, although the editor will usually be showing the first frame in the GOP, every frame in the GOP will be excluded from the output file.  This option can also be selected by pressing <End>.

Add - The Add control (Cut List only) scans the Cut Start and Cut Stop positions to verify the specified cut is valid, and then adds the Cut Segment to the Cut List.  If the cut parameters are not valid, the editor will produce an error dialogue explaining the issue.  The Add function will only operate if both a Start Cut and a Stop cut have been defined.  This option can also be selected by pressing <Del>.

Delete - The Del control (Cut List only) removes the currently selected Cut Segment from the Cut List.  If no cut segment is selected, this button has no effect.  To highlight a cut segment in the cut list, click on the segment with the mouse, or use the up and down arrow keys to scroll through the Cut List.  This option can also be selected by pressing <Backspace>.

FAE Cut Start - The [->F control (Cut List only) opens the current GOP and allows the user to select a specific frame, rather than the entire GOP, to be used as the first frame to be removed in a cut segment.  The user controls the FAE cut utility in essentially the same way as the GOP editor, except the selected frame and all subsequent frames will not be included in the finished output, but all frames in the GOP prior to the selected frame will be included.  After selecting the frame to cut, the user clicks <Add> to enter the frame as the first frame in the cut segment.  The selection may be edited prior to selecting <Add> in the main window to set the cut list.  All FAE endpoints will be highlighted with a cyan background in the Cut List.  This option can also be selected by pressing <PgUp>.

FAE Cut Stop - The F->] control (Cut List only) opens the current GOP and allows the user to select a specific frame, rather than the entire GOP, to be used as the last frame to be removed in a cut segment.  The user controls the FAE cut utility in essentially the same way as the GOP editor, except that all frames in the GOP up to and including the selected frame will not be included in the finished output, but all frames in the GOP subsequent to the selected frame will be included.  After selecting the frame to cut, the user clicks <Add> to enter the frame as the last frame in the cut segment.  The selection may be edited prior to selecting <Add> in the main window to set the cut segment.  All FAE endpoints will be highlighted with a cyan background in the Cut List.  This option can also be selected by pressing <PgDn>.

Chapter Add - The Add Chap control (Chapter List only) sets a chapter marker at the start of the current GOP.  Chapter markers cannot be added inside cut segments.  This option can also be selected by pressing <Ins>.  Changes can be made to a cut segment prior to selecting Add, but nothing will be saved to the Cut List until this option is selected.  Don't forget to select add after making the cut selections, or your edit be lost.

Chapter Delete - The Del Chap control (Chapter List only) removes the currently selected chapter marker from the Chapter List.  If no chapter marker is selected, this button has no effect.  To highlight a chapter marker in the Chapter List, click on the marker with the mouse, or use the up and down arrow keys to scroll through the Chapter List.  This option can also be selected by pressing <Backspace>.

Play Backwards - The < control at the bottom of the window causes the editor stream backward through the file at the speed set in the options menu until stop or Play Forward are clicked.  This option can also be selected by pressing <F4>.

Play Forward - The > control at the bottom of the window causes the editor to stream forward through the file at the speed set in the options menu until stop or Play Backwards are clicked.  This option can also be selected by pressing <F5>.

Stop - The stop control at the bottom of the window causes the editor to quit streaming through the file.  This option can also be selected by pressing <Esc> or <Space>.
